BATES
6 Jul 2010,  Robert Webler,  web325@crocker.com
John Martin BATES, a ward of Ebenezer BACKUS, was a Hessian soldier deserter "hired" by BACKUS in the fall of 1783, but took ill and died in the fall of 1785. I have seen records pertaining to this saga at the State Library. In those records, it is mentioned that BACKUS paid for the burial of BATES. I seek evidence of that burial in Windham or possibly Norwich. Thank you for your kind attention.

One of my ancestry lines leads to Sarah ELDERKIN of Windham. The family record I have shows Sarah being born on Aug 8, 1779 and says she was a Mayflower descendant. I am trying to pursue that claim to see if there is any legitimate documentation of such. On the LDS site I have found her parents listed as Alfred and Sarah Brown ELDERKIN. I would appreciate any information you might have on this family.

MANNING
6 Jun 2005,  Eric Hillendahl,  eh1921@sbc.com
MANNING, Alfred (b. 16 Dec 1782 in Windham Twp, Windham County, CT, d. 6 Oct 1845 in Batesville, Independence Co., Ark). married Aurelia STRONG (b. 24 Apr 1788, in Poultney Twp, Rutland County, VT.) on 19 Sep 1809 (in either Poultney, Vermont, or Knox County, Ohio). Alfred and Aurelia (STRONG) MANNING had 8 children (all born in Knox County, Ohio, between 1810 – 1830). I can provide their names if it would be helpful. I have found the following information about Alfred MANNING (on the internet). Barbour Collection Connecticut Vital Records, Windham County, CT, Births, Marriages, Deaths 1692 – 1850 Town of Windham "MANNING: Alfred, s. Joel & Abigail, b. Dec. 16, 1782; Vol. 2; page 194."

Two questions:

(1) Do you have any additional information about Alfred MANNING (besides the information from the  Barbour Collection)?
(2) Do you know where I can obtain a printed copy of the Barbour Collection? (I only need it for the Volume that contains Alfred’s information). I am applying to the Mayflower Society, and they are very rigid on their requirements for documentation. Anything that you might have will be helpful. Thanks.
