Note: Earlier records dated between May 1782 and June 4, 1840 may be found in the Bridgeport Probate Offices and at the CT State Library.
  • The Connecticut State Library has received most Probate records prior to 1850. Pre-1850 records are also available on microfilm.
  • The Connecticut State Library has microfilm of copies of deeds, mortgages, releases and related records to about 1900. Grantor and grantee indexes are available, but there is no statewide index.

Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery (located behind St. James Church at foot of Academy Hill). Contact church historian. (203) 375-4447

The Putney-Oronoque Cemetery
Established 1827 and run by the Union Cemetery Association. The Putney Chapel was erected in 1844, and the Association was incorporated in 1889. The chapel is still in use today. The addess is : 23 Temple Court, Stratford, CT 06615 (203) 375-4932

"Can't seem to find much more on these two, but would like to pass the info on to anyone researching the families.
The Hanover referred to above is Hanover township, Luzerne county, PA. I know there were countless settlers from Ct who eventually settled the Wyoming Valley, perhaps one of them is looking for these two."
