My Connection to New Haven County
My interest in New Haven County genealogy is both personal and longstanding. Several of my ancestral lines lived, worked, and raised families in this county, creating a strong connection that spans generations.
My New Haven County families include the following surnames:
- Buell
- Dorman
- Leavenworth
- Bishop
- Harriman
- Holcombe
- Scott
Through researching these families, I developed a deep appreciation for New Haven County's towns, records, and history, as well as the challenges that often come with early Connecticut research.
My Role as County Coordinator
As County Coordinator for New Haven County, my role is to help maintain and improve this website, preserve existing data, and make it easier for others to locate records and resources relevant to their research.
While I do have a genuine love for New Haven County and a personal connection through my own family lines, I do not live in the county. Because of this, I am unable to conduct on-site research, courthouse visits, or local record searches on behalf of others.
Research Assistance & Brick Walls
New Haven County research can present extremely difficult brick walls, especially in the colonial and early statehood periods. When research reaches that level of complexity, working with someone who has direct access to local repositories can be invaluable.
I strongly encourage researchers facing challenging problems to consider hiring a professional genealogist or finding a local research volunteer who is familiar with New Haven County records, town clerks' offices, and nearby archives. A local perspective and hands-on access can often make the difference in breaking through long-standing research obstacles.
