Jan. 7, 1998 Gail Ell Hi, I would like to correspond with anyone researching the Clement NEFF b: aft 1687 & Patience BROWN b:Dec 28, 1707 families. I'm trying to connect this Clement NEFF with our ancestor Clement NEFF who lived most of his life in Ontario, Canada. Our Clement NEFF was b: 1797/98 in the US. At this point, that is all we able to find, he married Mary ?? possibly HONEYWELL b: Canada. I have lots to share with anyone if they think there is a connection. Possibly one of the bunch left for Canada. From census records we know he was in Ontario in 1840. Thank you all in advance. Gail Ell
07 Jan 98 D Donovan I am searching for a Alfred Rood or Rude he was born in Lebanon Ct. in 1784 he died in Aug. 1848 (drowned on farm date not recorded) He was married to a Sarah Sawyer, died 24 June 1876 in Winddham Ct. Alfred was the son of Rufus Rood -Rude born 4 Dec. 1751 Lebanon, died 1 July 1871, I beleive in Westchester Ct. ? Alfreds' mother was either Lydia Niles or a Rebekah Hiscock, I have very little information regarding his mother. Any information would be vastly appreciated.

I believe Mercy is daughter of John CHESTER/Abigail ? or Simeon CHESTER, but need proof. John CHESTER and Simeon CHESTER were both sons of Capt. John CHESTER/Mary STARR They had brothers Thomas and Deacon Joseph, who also had daughters named Mercy. I have ruled them out. Need either birth record or marriage record that names her parents.

09 Jan 1998 Walt Russell I am searching for information about an ancestor. His name is Gideon Russell, born December 25, 1760 and he died in 1838. He was married to Jemima Alvord. My understanding is that there were several children from this marriage. I also understand that Gideon Russell served as a private in an army unit from Connecticutt during the Revolutionary War. Do you have access to any information regarding Gideon Russell and his ancestors or descendents that might help me in my search.

Anne ), (2) George, bn 1770 (md.(1) Sally Eaton, (2) Mary Gordon) (3) Nathanial, bn 1773 (md.Mary (Polly) Rogers), (4) Samuel, bn 1774 (md.Nancy Ann Burrows), and (5) Abigail(md. Barnett DIXON. Members of this family later moved to Windham Co. Ct. and Wayne, & Onandago Cos. NY Nathanial (my ancestor) stayed in New London and raised a large family. They were merchants and seamen. Wed, 28 Jan 1998 Nancy Ring Kendrick RING Adolph (Adolf); DEU>CT,USA; c. 1850? and RING Barbara (Barbra); DEU>CT, USA; Their known children include: RING John - RING Leo - RING Fred, F.M. or Felix Michel or Felix Michael, (my paternal grandfather: b: 11/1893 d: 02/1983 - Watertown, NY) and Clemintine or Clementine Ring. Family memories state that Adolph and Barbara had seven children, some who were born in CT. It is believed that the Ring children were orphaned at a young age, and raised by either sister Clemintine "Clementine," or other relatives/friends in CT. John Ring was a known professional boxer/fighter in CT and PA. He had a daughter Mary Ring, who lived in the Pittsburgh, PA area. Mary may have recently died. Felix Michael Ring may have been one of the children born in CT. Felix Michael Ring married Ada Mae Allen on 11/26/1926 in Natural Dam, NY area. The Rev. Brown officiated the ceremony. Felix was a superintendent for the A&P grocery store chain until 1938, when he purchased a 5&10 store in Adams, NY. Jan.28, 1998 Sandy Leibowitz Surname WICKWIRE. Grant Wickwire was born in Colchester in 1751. I am trying to find out who his parents were and if he had any other siblings. I know of one brother James. Both James and Grant served in the Continental Army. I am particulary interested in learning their mother's maiden name. It may have been Grant. Grant Wickwire later moved to Litchfield and married Sarah THROOP. Any information would be very appreciated!

14 Feb 1998 Virginia Parmenter David and Priscilla (BAKER) GODFREY moved from "Cape Cod" MA to New London Co by 1748. Their son, Capt David GODFREY, was a seaman and married Mary KING about 1754 (undocumented). Both families migrated to Nova Scotia. Younger David and Mary GODFREY went to Kings Co NS by 1760 with two children, David and Mary. First wife (Mary KING) died in Nova Scotia and David m (2) Elizabeth HARRIS originally of CT, dau of Lebbeus Harris. GODFREY family left Nova Scotia and settled in Orange Co NY by 1774. 2/20/98 Julie Wychor Desperately seeking EDGERTON information!! I am trying to find the missing link between my EDGERTON ancestors and the first EDGERTON immigrants. My ancestor Joseph EDGERTON was born in the mid 1700's and died early 1800's. He married Martha LAMB in 1790 in North Carolina. He and Martha were both Quakers. Joseph's father was Thomas EDGERTON, who married Elizabeth SAINT, but I don't know anything about Thomas or Elizabeth's locations, birth, death dates, etc. My family would really like to find our connection back to the early EDGERTON immigrants, and then to our UK connections. If you have any EDGERTON information at all, I would appreciate hearing from you. I have a small book of Edgerton family history information that I would be happy to share with anyone who asks.

March 5, 1998 Linda Coit King I am looking for information on Grace Coit born 6-26-1770. She married Walter Gracie. They had one child Gabriel Gracie who was adopted by his uncle when Grace died of yellow fever in New London August, 1798. I can not find any records on Grace or Walter. I am looking for a pamplet supposedly written by Charles Holt of the BEE newspaper. This is a list of the people who died of yellow fever epidemic in 1798. 11 MAY 1998 Kathy Buratti Looking for any information on Hazzard ADAMS. All I know is that he was born about 1794 in CT, in that part near Rhode Island. His mother's maiden name is believed to be Haz[z]ard. He had uncles who were whalers and at the age of 16 left home and settled in Luzerne Co. PA. Does anyone have any knowledge of an ADAMS-HAZARD marriage ca. 1790? I have checked the Barbour Index very carefully and none exists on that list but realize that the Index doesn't account for everyone. Any help would be gratefully received. Hazzard is my brick wall.

The family started in CT in the late 1600's to mid 1700's, then some moved to Orange C, NC, then to KY AND TN in the mid 1800's. 16 May 1998 FRENDUIR I need help finding info on an Ellen BOWEN b.1821 her daughter Georgianna BOWEN. She was living in the home of JOHN LYONS at the time ELLEN BOWEN had her daughter GEORGIANNA BOWEN. I do not know their relationship between Ellen and John perhaps, she was his sister ELLEN LYONS or her husband????? I believe they lived in New London CT. Can you help me find more info about these people. I know Georgianna marries a Samual BROWN and moves to NY. where she is buried. Another problem is the name may be BOHAN and not BOWEN. We find both on GEORGIANNA BOWEN. Her death cert. has BOWEN but her son before he died kept saying it was BOHAN. We have no proof of the name BOHAN.

Their children: Charles b. ca 1840 in IL, Henry b. ca 1842 in WI, son Houser(?) ca 1848 in WI, Cabel b. 1850 in WI. Were Caleb and Henry brothers? Were they related to Peter and Joseph? Peter PORTWINE was living in Cook Co. IL in 1840. He was born either between 1790-1800 or 1810-1820. There is a Portwine Road near Northbrook IL. He married Julia in Chicago. Anthony PORTWINE was b. 9 Jan 1834in Montreal, Quebec. He emigrated to Michigan ca 1863 and married Martha Smith of Ada MI. Is Anthony related to the others? June 9, 1998 John Le Garignon I am looking for any information on William KENNEDY and/or Mary BUTLER (around 1750-1780). The reasons I am looking for this information in New London County is two fold. First my ancestors William and Mary published their intention to marry on December 8, 1762 in Boston, Suffolk Co. Mass (in the presence of a relative of Mary by the name of John Butler) but they married out of town as the marriage was not recorded per say; only one publication seems to indicate a contract of mariage around 1770; they then went to Connecticut if one source (an historical publication about the Gaspe Coast, Quebec, Canada) is right in saying that my ancestor, their son Isaac, was born in Connecticut. (This is my first clue). Second clue: Before emigrating to Canada in 1782 or 1783, they were living in Tryon Co., NY in the Johnstown-Albany area where one finds that John Butler (born in New London) lived for most of his life. Is it the same John Butler? If it is the same John Butler how is he related to Mary? I don't know but would like to find out. 21 Jul 1998 Melinda Wroten Researching SAMUEL BILLINGS b abt 1718 (New London) , who is reported by my family to be the father of JOHN BILLINGS, b 10 Nov 1751 Montville, New London, Matthew BILLINGS and Benjamin BILLINGS. In research, data is conflicting, and I have limited library sources. Samuel is reported by our family to have died at Fort Griswold. The Connecticut Gazette reports him among the dead from New London on Sept 21 ,1781. His widow is listed as "Grace" in the book: "The Battle of Groton Heights" by William Wallace Harris, 1882. I'm hesitant to connect him as John Billings' , since I have no primary sources. Can anyone help me get a better handle on his parents, wife, and children? We know little of him save for the fact that before 1794 he married the widow Abigail Stone Osborn, b. 21 Nov 1767 in Connecticut, daughter of John Stone. She died 15 March 1843 in Norwich, CT. Philip died in 1863. Children of that marriage included: Eliza, John, Nathan, Charles and Philip. Charles Dillaby was born 14 June 1799 in New London, CT. He married Harriet Derby or Darby, daughter of Rufus and Polly Jones Darby of Norwich. Children of that marriage included Harriet Elizabeth, Mary Lucretia, Maria, Charles Henry, Helen Louise, Frances Esther and Henrietta Jane. Charles Henry Dillaby was born 1 Nov 1833 in Norwich, CT. He married Julie Bennett Johnson of Victor, N.Y. on 15 Oct. 1867. He died 6 Oct 1889. Their children included Julian Riley Dillaby, born 18 June 1873, d. 10 Nov. 1917; Charles Paine Dillaby, b 30 Apr 1878; and my grandfather, Frank Henry Dillaby, b. 20 June 1875. This is all the information I have. I need to fill some gaps, like dates and places of marriage, birth and death.

Richard Shaw was b. 7 Oct 1751 in New London, CT. At first call during the Rev. War he joined the CT Line from New London, CT. He was in a company composed mostly of Stonington, CT men. After six mos. service he was discharged and went to Northampton Co., PA where he married Mary McDowell in about 1778. In Northampton Co. there was a John Shaw (born 1745 in New London, CT) who is believed to be Richard's brother. John married Hannah McDowell, sister to Mary. Records indicate that John's parents were John Sr. and Eunice Shaw. Both John and Richard named children John and Eunice. After much research, I can find no trace of John Sr. and Eunice. Can anyone help?
