QUERIES FOR BOZRAH, CONNECTICUT

April 19, 1997--Beth Turnage--Looking for information on Merwin Perkins Chapman, who is buried in the Comstock Cemetery in Bozrah. His birth date is listed as 1855 and he died in 1927. He married Martha Ann Bogue. Any information appreciated.

22 Jun 97 -- BETTY CRAWFORD --Hannah CHAPMAN born in 1725 in Bozrah Conn. Married Stephen LOOMER. I think they married in Bozrah

 25 Jul 1997 -- Marv & Mary Lam -- we are looking for information on John Ford married to Lucy Harris August
14, 1786 in Bozrah.  he died dec. 27, 1847 in German Flats, Herkimer Co. NY. He was born Nov. 12, 1763 in Norwich. supposedly he served in revolutionary war at age 16 as a substitute for his father who had recently remarried. He may have received some of his fathers land in exchange for this service. We are looking for some proof of his war service. we would like any corrections or addtl info, thanks.

12/15/1997 -- , Don Livingston -- Seeking information on ancestry of Asahel Sanger, born in Connecticut
about 1790. Not sure who he married - had two sons - Jedediah (b. abt.1803 and John (b. abt. 1806) - may be other children - not sure. Any help appreciated - Thanks

20 March 1998 --    Jack  Thomson -- I am looking for information on the Gardners who lived in the Bozrah area and for whom  Gardner Lake is supposedly named.   It is believed they came to Ct. from Kingston, Rhode Island.  Prior to RI  they were believed to have been from Plymouth, MA.   Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

5/24/98 -- Richard D. Harris --The Walter Harris family left England in 1637 and settled in Boston.  Moved to New London in 1651  His great-grandson's family moved to New Concord (Bozrah) in 1725.  They settled by the stream that flows from the north end of Gardiners lake .  Gibson Harris (his wife was Phebe Denison of Stonington) purchased 40 acres from Daniel Tracy in 1723 and moved in in 1725.  He also purchased other adjacent land.  They had 4 children with them and had 5 more were born in New Concord.  He died in 1761 She died 1779  It is assumed they are buried in the Hough-Harris Cemetery where the earliest readable headstone is dated 1791. Two daughters died in Bozrah but it was son Daniel (1726-1819) who took over
the land. He married Prudence Rogers of Montville and they had ten children.  He was a Revolutionary War Soldier and is buried in the Hough-Harris cemetery along with several other family members. His daughter Phebe, was a founder of
the Scotts Hill Church. Peter Harris (1756-1840) who married Rebecca Rockwell of Preston was also a soldier in The Revolution and they had six children, including Dyer Harris (1795-1874) who taught school in Bozrah for many years  His house shows on an old map..  John Rockwell Harris (1788-1848) married Laura Hazen and they had four children.
They died within one month of each other in 1848.   With that, the remaining land was sold and the unmarried children moved to Moodus

5/24/98 -- Richard D. Harris -- Gibson Harris bought land from Daniel Tracy in 1723 "where the stream flows
from Gardiner's Lake. I know that a dam was built and that the outflow  has probably been moved, but I would still like to pin down the exact location, if possible.  Notes I have say that a chimney was still standing in the early 1900's.   Four generations of Harrises are buried in the Hough-Harris Cemetery.

June 4, 1998, -- James M. Rankin, .--  Looking for information on the marriage of Virgina Faust and James Milton
Rankin around 1915. Lived in Hartford and Glastonbury, CT.  Virgina Rankin at one time lived on Carter Lane and worked for the Carters who lived on Main Street, Glastonbury.

June 4, 1998, -- James M. Rankin -- Looking for any information on the Faust and Rankin who lived in Glastonbury for most of 20th century.  Also information on King May who owned a tobacco farm in Glastonbury in 1950's.  Virgina Rankin, maiden name Faust, married to James Milton Rankin had three children, Milton, Helen and Eleanor.

June 12, 1998 -- Rosie Byard -- Searching for information about the family of George L. PERKINS and Lillian (Melissa) FAIRFIELD. Son Arthur George PERKINS was born about 1885 in Bozrah.  All that is known is that Lillian was born 17 Feb 1862 in Putnam, Windham Co., CT and died Feb 1944 in Worcester, MA.

June 16, 1998 -- Vickie Canevari  -- I am researching the Margaret Meagher Popham family who immigrated from County
Cork, Ireland (Ringaskiddy was where Margaret married Henry Popham in 1866) to Bozrah, CT  in 1893.  Several teenage to adult children came with her.  Any information about them would be appreciated.  For instance, I don't know where Margaret lived in Bozrah. I understand she worked at the Bedquilt Mills.   I do know that she and her son John are buried together at St. Mary's Cemetary in Norwich.  Margaret Popham 1842-1916, John 1868 - 1907, William 1877-1946, Henry 1874- ?, Margaret 1874-1936, Henry ?, Thomas ?, Esther 1883-?, Susan  ?, Maryann
