"King's attorney came from England in 1635. He moved from Wethersfield to Stamford, CT about 1640, soon after the original settlers. He was the first and only Town Clerk for 24 Years, 1641-1664; Selectman for 6 years; Representative in New Haven 1653-1665; Representative to the Connecticut Legislature 1666, 1669, 1672...Constable noted for a fearless and tireless efficiency."

The name of Jonathan Law, Esq member of the Council of Safety, appears on the account of Oliver Wolcott against the State of CT to the expense of an express from Litchfield to Milford to summon Jonathan Law, Esq to attend the Council at Lebanon at the desire of Gov Trumbull, Aug 1778. BENEDICT ARNOLD LAW served in the Rev War in Milford, CT (Where he was born) From DAR records #234118; Benedict Arnold Law assisted the cause of American Independence by serving as one of a committee of suppliers for soldier's families for the town of Milford, CT, the committee receiving pay for their service to the town. He was a surveyor of highways in 1778, also was on the committee to care for the soldiers' families in1783. 1790 Census shows 2-5-3-0 and 1 slave. Copied from a FHC microfilm copy of an article, "Judge John Law" by Charles Denby as presented to and published by the Indiana Historical Society, November 26, 1873. Judge John Law is the grandson of Judge Richard Law. He was a member of the First Continental Congress elected in 1776 and was therefore a member of the Congress which adopted the "Declaration of Independence". The great honor of signing that memorable instrument would have been his, but at the time that Congress sat Richard Law and several members of his family were afflicted with smallpox, and he did not take his seat until 1777. He served as a member of the Continental Congress until the close of the war, and at the expiration of his term he was appointed by President Washington United States Judge for the District of Connecticut, and discharged the important duties of that office with honor and ability until his death, which occurred in1806. He is remembered as a gentleman of the "old school," possessing all the grace and dignity which belonged to a style of men who have passed away.
