When Richard Ambler came to America, is unknown, however it was prior to 1637, as he is of record at Watertown, Middlesex Co, MA in that year, and Boston, Suffolk Co, MA in 1643.  He probably removed to Stamford, CT between 1646 and the autumn of 1648 and where he is of record as having purchased a tract of land in 1650.  He was admitted Freeman by the General Court Assembly on the list presented to the Court in October 1669. This date may be in error as he is known to have been a Selectman in 1666 serving from Stamford, CT, thus his admittance as Freeman probably occurred prior to that time.  There remains some confusion as to Richard's age, as in one Court Record in 1659, he gave his age as "about 45", while yet in another Court Record in 1666, he gives his age as "about 55".

Richard Ambler removed to Bedford, Westchester Co, NY about 1680-1681 and remained there until 1699, when he sold his land holdings at that place to the Town of Bedford and those of his family that remained in Bedford, and returned to Stamford.   The last known record at Stamford appears when he gave a Deed of Gift on 15 Jan 1699/1700 to "my grandson, John Ambler, all my rights and titles of lands in Stamford." Presumably he died shortly thereafter.

7.  Abraham Ambler (Abraham, Richard)30,31 was born 05 January 1665/66 in Stamford, CT, and died Bef. 1697 in Stamford, CT.  He married Hannah Gold32,33 12 January 1691/92 in Stamford, CT, daughter of John Gold and Hannah Slawson.
